The 2018 Colors of the Year, According Paint Companies
Black is back!
PPG Paints, Olympic, and Glidden went to the dark side.
PPG Paints—Black Flame
“Black Flame acts like a black curtain, allowing your other decor elements to take center stage,” said Dee Schlotter, PPG senior color marketing manager. “Black creates the silence we crave in an information-heavy world, while the indigo offers possibility and a deep hopefulness.” And… we love it! This color is timeless and mesmerizing, a “statement-making” black that won’t go unnoticed.
Glidden—Deep Onyx
“Using a black paint color like Deep Onyx on your walls or in your decor may feel intimidating at first, but it’s actually one of the easiest colors to use to create the low-key, easygoing style that’s trending for 2018,” said Misty Yeomans, PPG color marketing manager for Glidden. Glidden is a minimalist black that will make a statement in your interior design.
Olympic—Black Magic
“In past years, consumers have gravitated toward open, airy spaces that are thought to leave room for exposure,” says Schlotter. But now, “they crave deep, comforting colors that offer a welcomed escape from the chaos of daily life. Black Magic perfectly satisfies consumers’ desire for privacy.”
Oceanside
Oceanside (SW 6496) is a “fusion of rich blue with jewel-toned green” that “evokes optimism” and “offers a sense of the familiar with a hint of the unknown, bridging between old and new, light and dark.” People today have a growing sense of adventure, and it is making its way into even the coziest corners of our homes,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “We are craving things that remind us of bright folklore, like mermaids and expeditions across continents. Oceanside is the color of wanderlust right in our own homes.”
Caliente
“Strong, radiant and full of energy, Caliente AF-290 is total confidence. It is pleasing, passionate and makes people feel special, like ‘red carpet treatment’,” said Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Director of Strategic Design Intelligence. “Whether used as one note or on four walls, the spirited personality of red turns heads signaling surprise and adventure. The eye can’t help but follow its bold strokes.”
Soft Colors
Paint brand Dutch Boy has chosen Sandstone Tint (441-2DB) as their 2018 Color of the Year, calling it “a hue that nods to the simplicity of the past, while also making a modern, color-confident statement that looks to the future.”
Our Bet for Pantone Color of the Year 2018
